Many of the Plastic Pollution Coalition members have been working on a bill that would ban the hormone-disrupting chemical Bisphenol A (BPA) in infant formula and sippy cups through aggressive outreach to and lobbying of the California legislature.

As of today, the bill has 18 votes in the California Senate, but it needs 21.  There was a vote today, but because of a procedural error the vote was closed early.  The bill will have another shot  — probably tomorrow or Friday.  Three key members abstained in today’s vote.  We need these three Senators to vote YES  in order to pass the bill and to get it to the Governor’s desk.

If you or your friends have a relationships with any of the three target Senators from the Los Angeles area, please have them reach out to these offices. The vote may take place as early as tomorrow afternoon so please urge your friends to make calls as soon as possible. Time is of the essence.

Here are the phone numbers for the target offices for the three senators who abstained:

Correa: (916) 651-4034 He should be concerned about non-BPA free baby bottles and products being dumped into poorer neighborhoods, of which he has many.  Is is a member of the Senate Select Committee on  Autism and Related Disorders.
McLeod: (916) 651-4032 She has 10 children, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Price: (916) 651-4026 Has not voted yet.

Please spread the word.
