When [Bag] Monsters Attack
On August 12th, 2010, a demonstration took place in Ghiradelli Square, San Francisco, California to raise awareness about the growing problem of single use plastic bags, and the pollution they create in the environment. The event, called “Don’t Feed the Bag Monster,” was a parade of around 70 volunteers in costumes made entirely of plastic bags. This spectacle was representative of the number of plastic bags the average person uses in one year.
The Don’t Feed the Bag Monster event in San Francisco was also a kickoff event for the Bag Monster’s (embodied by Chico Bag founder Andy Keller) tour across the country. He is bringing a lifetime of single-use plastic bag waste across the country. The Bag Monster will be traveling all over the country educating the public on the harms of single-use. He has already moved through Portland and Seattle, where he has been featured on CBS Portland, CBS Seattle, FOX Seattle, Seattle Times, and the Seattle Weekly.
The Bag Monster will be in Boise, ID on Wednesday, Salt Lake City, UT on Thursday and Telluride, CO Friday. The next week he will be in Denver, CO, Albuquerque & Roswell, NM and Dallas, TX. You can follow his tour via Google maps on bagmonster.com.
