Dr. Edison de MelloPlastic Pollution Coalition is very pleased to welcome Dr. Edison de Mello and his team at the Akasha Center for Integrative Medicine as our newest Coalition members. The Center’s founder Edison de Mello, MD, PhD is a board certified Family Physician by the American Board of Family Medicine and a licensed psychotherapist by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.  His strong commitment to the practice of integrative medicine is evidenced in his clear vision for the Akasha Center: “a healing sanctuary” where all parts that compose a person, namely mind, body and spirit, are equally addressed when treating and preventing disease. His goal is to help every patient get the best out of the integration of science-proven approaches to medicine – drawing from both the technological advances of the West and the ancient wisdom of the East.

The Akasha Center for Integrative Medicine, LLC, along with the de Mello Institute, founded in 1996, is a collective group of professionals from diverse backgrounds who share a vision of change. The center goes beyond the realm of typical medical practices by fully integrating western medicine with proven complementary approaches to health and wellness. The Center’s physicians are board certified and have admitting privileges at Santa Monica-UCLA and Saint John’s Medical Center. The Integrative Practitioners are licensed, well-recognized experts in their respective fields of Acupuncture, Chinese Medicine, Naturopathic Medicine, Nutrition, Herbal Medicine, Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, Physical Therapy and Bodywork. Together in a calm and friendly setting they provide you with a combination of services that synergistically help you along your path to wellness.

Dr. de Mello and the Akasha Center strive to reduce the use of disposable plastics in their practice. Their affiliated online store Akasha Naturals is the first dietary supplement line to be developed by an interdisciplinary team of board-certified medical doctors and licensed, recognized practitioners in alternative modalities. More than 75% of the products are carefully packaged and distributed in plastic-free materials. Both in the store and at the Wellness Center, this group works under the motto of “Less is more”.

Dr. de Mello has also contributed to the Huffington Post on the negative health impacts associated with water bottles and other disposable plastic containers. We welcome his expertise and the guiding mission of the Akasha Wellness Center to the growing global movement against plastic pollution.
