DiannaCohenPlastic Pollution Coalition (PPC) is pleased to announce that Dianna Cohen has assumed the position of CEO of PPC effective June 27, 2014. As one of PPC’s four original Co-Founders and PPC’s former Creative Advocacy Director, Dianna has spearheaded critical aspects of building the organization and movement to end the devastating impacts of plastic pollution since its inception.

Through art, education, partnerships, and creative advocacy, PPC encourages people to recognize the impact of their plastic footprint and choose sustainable solutions to reduce it. From Dianna’s numerous public speaking engagements, including her TED talk which has been viewed nearly half a million times; to co-producing events including TEDxGreatPacificGarbagePatch and the 2013 Think Beyond Plastic Conference; to numerous art exhibitions, fundraising dinners, film screenings, and concerts; to partnerships with music festivals and growing the list of notable coalition members, Dianna’s tireless efforts alongside many others have helped build today’s global PPC coalition.

The PPC coalition now consists of over 380 organizations and businesses worldwide including over 100 outside the United States working towards a world free of plastic pollution and its toxic impacts. PPC members include organizations as varied as Conservation International, Breast Cancer Fund, As You Sow, Plastic Soup Foundation, and the Girl Scouts of America, which together provide a collective reach of over 50 million people.

As PPC’s new Chief Executive Officer, Dianna is looking forward to growing and guiding PPC towards even greater possibilities to amplify the message of stopping plastic pollution at the source by refusing single-use and disposable plastics daily and by supporting and cultivating sustainable alternative solutions. Dianna is especially passionate about her work to engage prominent musicians and artists such as Jeff Bridges, Alfre Woodard, Ben Harper, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Danny Glover, Jack Johnson, and Shawn Colvin in the cause. She is also excited to expand PPC’s pioneering work to co-create Plastic Free Campuses at schools and universities globally. PPC welcomes Dianna Cohen as the new Chief Executive Officer and looks forward to a new chapter in our fight to end plastic pollution.

PPC could not do this work without its incredible members, partners and supporters. PPC’s success is the result of many people’s combined efforts and we are deeply grateful for the growing community, concern, and support of our shared mission. Dianna looks forward to hearing ideas and suggestions from the PPC community as it charts its course moving forward. PPC’s Co-Founder and former Executive Director Daniela Russo has left PPC to lead the Think Beyond Plastic Innovation Forum, addressing plastic pollution through innovation and entrepreneurship. Think Beyond Plastic was a long time project of PPC and should become independent soon.
