DONATING TO PLASTIC POLLUTION COALITION VIA STOCK TRANSFER
One of the most important donation opportunities for both donors and Earth Island projects like the Plastic Pollution Coalition is appreciated stock. The donor gets to claim the full value of the stock (as of the date that it leaves his/her hands), and the donor avoids what may be very significant capital gains taxes on the appreciated value of the shares over their original acquisition value.

All stock gifts to projects of Earth Island should be donated to Earth Island Institute via a transfer of shares directly into Earth Island’s Schwab account. The donor’s broker will need the following information to process the donation:

Account Name: Earth Island Institute
Charles Schwab Account #3024-7477 DTC #164
Earth Island Institute is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization. Our tax ID is #94-2889684.

Before sending the Plastic Pollution Coalition a stock donation, we must have the following information in advance of the transfer so that the gift will be credited to your project:

1. the name of the security
2. the expected number of shares
3. when the transfer is expected to take place
4. the name and address of the donor
5. please indicate that you want your stock donated to Plastic Pollution Coalition, which is Project 55 at Earth Island Institute

Please send this information to Sheela Shankar sheela@earthisland.org and PPC CEO Dianna Cohen dianna@plasticpollutioncoalition.org before you send your stock transfer.

If you or your donors have further questions, please contact Sheela Shankar at 510-859-9137 or via e-mail sheela@earthisland.org .

MAKING A BEQUEST TO PLASTIC POLLUTION COALITION
We hope you will consider Plastic Pollution Coalition as you are planning for the future. By having an estate plan, you can ensure that your assets are distributed according to your personal, financial, and philanthropic goals. And one doesn’t necessarily need “significant assets” or an “estate plan” in order to include Plastic Pollution in one’s will.

A bequest can designate Plastic Pollution Coalition as the beneficiary of a will, retirement fund, a bank account, an insurance policy, or real estate. Gifts can be made of a specific dollar amount, a percentage, or even specific assets.

If you choose to set up a bequest, we suggest you list Plastic Pollution Coalition as follows: “Plastic Pollution Coalition, a project of Earth Island Institute, a 501(C)3, non-profit organization organized and existing under the laws of California, and with a current business address of 2150 Allston Way, Suite 460, Berkeley, CA 94704. Federal ID #94-2889684.”

We encourage you to consult with an attorney or estate specialist to guide you in making the best possible choice for your own legal and financial situation.

We are available to work with you and your financial advisors to plan the kind of giving that works best for you. Please feel free to contact us at by sending an e-mail to Kevin Connelly kevin@earthisland.org and Plastic Pollution Coalition CEO Dianna Cohen at dianna@plasticpollutioncoalition.org.
